Qatar Airways has become the first airline in the world to operate Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9 aircraft, marking a fresh milestone in its ongoing rollout of high-speed onboard Wi-Fi across its widebody fleet.
The carrier has also completed the installation of Starlink connectivity across its entire Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet, a process it says was finished within seven months. Together, these developments bring the total number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft in Qatar Airways' operation to 150.
The airline said the milestone forms part of its broader investment in passenger experience, as it continues to extend complimentary, high-speed connectivity across its international network. Starlink Wi-Fi on Qatar Airways flights offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps, allowing passengers to remain connected for work, communication and entertainment throughout their journey, including on long-haul and ultra-long-haul services.
According to Qatar Airways, more than half of its Boeing 787 fleet is now fitted with Starlink, with the airline targeting completion of the rollout across the remainder of the fleet by the end of 2026.
The carrier says it now operates the world's first and largest Starlink-equipped fleets of Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft, a claim it has built through a series of staged rollouts across its widebody aircraft types over recent months.
Qatar Airways said the Boeing 787-8 rollout followed a similar pattern of expansion after it completed Starlink installation across its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months. The airline has stated that as deployment continues across its remaining Boeing 787 aircraft, it is moving closer to making fast, uninterrupted onboard connectivity a standard feature across a significant proportion of its global network.
Since the service launched in October 2024, Qatar Airways said more than 23 million passengers have connected to Starlink across more than 86,000 flights. The airline currently operates up to 323 Starlink-equipped flights each day, all offering Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 Mbps.
Qatar Airways has also highlighted that it was the first airline to offer Starlink connectivity on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes spanning six continents, a distinction it has maintained as the rollout has progressed across its fleet.
The connectivity expansion comes as Qatar Airways continues to pick up industry recognition. The airline was named World's Leading Airline in 2025 by the World Travel Awards, and was also voted World's Best Airline Website at the 2025 World Travel Tech Awards.
The airline has not provided a specific timeline for when Starlink coverage might extend beyond its current widebody fleet types, but has indicated that connectivity upgrades remain a continuing priority as it works towards full deployment across its Boeing 787 aircraft by the end of 2026.
