The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric has been shown delivering acceleration and braking figures more commonly associated with supercars than large SUVs, according to independent instrumented testing published by Out of Spec Studios.
In a video from the testing channel, host Kyle Conner carried out a series of straight-line acceleration runs, quarter-mile passes and braking tests on an empty track. The results showed the 6,150lb electric SUV recording a 0-60mph time of 2.279 seconds. With a one-foot rollout, the figure fell to 2.142 seconds.
The figures place the Cayenne Turbo Electric in territory normally occupied by high-performance sports cars. The source material compared the rollout-assisted time with the Ferrari 296 GTB, while noting that the Porsche is a five-seat SUV rather than a lightweight mid-engined supercar.
The vehicle’s repeatability was also notable in the test. Its quarter-mile runs were reported to be consistently in the 9.6-second range, with trap speeds in the 143mph range each time. That consistency is significant because high-output electric vehicles can sometimes show performance variation depending on battery temperature, charge level and repeated hard use, although the video’s specific test conditions were not detailed in the source material.
The Cayenne Turbo Electric’s braking performance was also highlighted. Conner’s test car, which was not equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, stopped from 75mph to rest in 147 feet. Out of Spec Studios’ next closest result in the same braking test was reported as the Tesla Model X AWD, which stopped in 182 feet.
The difference between those two results is substantial for vehicles of this size and weight. The source material described the gap as about two and a half car lengths. It also cited Car and Driver testing in which the Cayenne matched the braking distance of the Corvette ZR1, underlining how unusual the Porsche’s stopping performance is for a heavy SUV.
Porsche’s use of the Turbo name has long denoted the strongest-performing versions of its models, including vehicles that are no longer powered by turbocharged petrol engines. In this case, the Cayenne Turbo Electric’s straight-line performance is helped by a reported output of 1,139 electric horsepower, delivered instantly through its electric drivetrain.
Even so, the braking result is perhaps the more striking element of the test because it relates not only to power but also to tyres, chassis control, brake hardware and weight management. Bringing a vehicle weighing more than three tons to a halt from motorway speeds in such a short distance is a demanding engineering challenge.
The video also underlines a broader shift in the performance car market. Electric powertrains have made extremely quick acceleration more accessible across a range of vehicle types, including SUVs and luxury saloons. As a result, straight-line figures that were once limited to exotic sports cars are now appearing in practical family vehicles, though usually at the top end of the market.
The Cayenne Turbo Electric’s performance will also add to the debate over how carmakers tune heavy electric vehicles. Large battery packs can significantly increase vehicle weight, but they also enable very high power outputs and low centres of gravity. Porsche’s test figures suggest the company has combined those advantages with unusually strong braking and chassis performance.
The figures reported by Out of Spec Studios are not official regulatory performance data, and results can vary depending on surface, weather, tyres, charge state and test method. However, the testing provides a clear indication of the Cayenne Turbo Electric’s capability in a controlled environment.
For Porsche, the video offers another example of how its electric models are being positioned not just as efficient alternatives to combustion vehicles, but as high-performance products in their own right. For rivals, it raises the benchmark for what buyers may expect from the next generation of electric SUVs.
