Kia EV3 Electric Crossover Set for US Launch with Substantial Pricing and Range

Kia has announced the official US pricing for its EV3 electric crossover, starting at $31,385, making it the manufacturer's most affordable EV in the American market. The vehicle, which has been available in other markets for nearly two years, faced delays in its US introduction due to tariffs before a shift in production plans made its launch more viable.

Kia has announced the official US pricing for its EV3 electric crossover, with the entry-level trim starting at $31,385, inclusive of destination charges. This price point positions the EV3 as Kia's most affordable electric vehicle in the US and among the most competitively priced EVs available in the American market.

The EV3 has been on sale in European and other international markets for nearly two years. Its delayed introduction to the US was primarily influenced by previous administrative tariffs and changes to federal EV tax credits, as initial production was exclusively based in South Korea. However, Kia has recently finalised arrangements to assemble the EV3 in Mexico, a development that has made its US launch significantly more feasible. The company has not yet confirmed the specific origin of the US-market vehicles.

The electric crossover will be offered in five distinct trim levels for US customers: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT. The pricing structure for these trims will range from the aforementioned $31,385 up to $47,385, including destination charges. This starting price represents a reduction of approximately $8,000 compared to Kia’s EV6 crossover and nearly $10,000 less than the Niro EV, a model Kia intends to discontinue from model year 2027 onwards.

Customers will have the option of both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations for the EV3. This offers a notable advantage over some key rivals, such as the Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf, which do not provide an AWD option. The FWD Light trim of the EV3 is equipped with a 58.3 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, offering an EPA-estimated range of 221 miles.

The remaining trims will feature an 81.4 kWh ‘Extended Range’ battery. With a FWD configuration, this larger battery delivers an EPA-estimated range of 321 miles, while the AWD variant is expected to achieve 280 miles.

The EV3’s charging capabilities are reported to be comparable with its segment rivals. It will integrate a Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) port directly from the factory. Kia states that the smaller battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes at a 350 kW public fast-charging station. The larger battery pack will require around 31 minutes for the same charge level. For home charging, a 240-volt, 11 kW Level 2 charger can replenish the smaller pack in approximately 5 hours and the larger pack in about 7 hours.

A notable feature of the EV3 is its vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which enables owners to power external appliances and electronic devices directly from the vehicle’s main battery, enhancing its utility beyond transport.

The top-of-the-range EV3 GT model will include distinctive features such as virtual gear shifts and active sound design. These software-based enhancements are designed to simulate the driving experience of a manual petrol car, similar to technologies found in vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This performance-oriented variant will also boast the highest power output, delivering 288 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of torque.

The other AWD trims are rated at 261 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, while the FWD EV3 models will produce 201 horsepower and 209 pound-feet of torque.

Kia's electric vehicle sales in the US market have reportedly been modest during the first half of this year, with 8,685 units of the three-row EV9 and 4,717 units of the EV6 sold. Despite this, the automaker's overall sales figures have reached new highs, driven primarily by its hybrid and conventionally-fuelled models. The introduction of the EV3 is expected to provide a significant opportunity for Kia to enhance its presence in the all-electric vehicle segment.
