A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing incident in north Belfast on Monday night. Police attended the scene on Kinnaird Avenue shortly after 22:30 BST and have arrested one individual who remains in custody as investigations continue.

Independent councillor Paul McCusker, who represents the area, described the attack as “horrific and terrifying,” noting that several residents witnessed the event. He highlighted the distress caused, with one woman reportedly requiring hospital treatment due to the shock of witnessing the attack.
Mr McCusker praised the intervention of residents who stopped the assault and called for calm and support for both the families involved and witnesses during this difficult period. “Despite the fear and anger, it is vital that the community supports the police in their investigation,” he said.
Political representatives from across the spectrum have responded to the incident. Sinn Féin MP John Finucane condemned the attack as “appalling” and emphasised that violence has no place in local communities.
Similarly, Democratic Unionist Party councillor Jordan Doran expressed concern following the circulation of footage of the incident, stating that such violence must not be tolerated in north Belfast. Ulster Unionist Party leader Jon Burrows described the event as a “barbaric attack” and said it had caused widespread shock throughout Northern Ireland and the wider UK.
